Classified Employees of the Year....
Nancy Thissen, Secretary to Director of Teacher Development, was nominated by MUSD employees and selected as MUSD’s Classified School Employee of the Year in the Office and Technology Category.  She has also been selected as the winner of the same award for the entire County!  Nancy is being sent forward now as the County Office’s representative to the State level.  Penny Okamoto, Technology Support Assistant at Veritas School, received the Support Services Award.   Linda Tilley, Librarian at McPlarland School, received the Para-Educator and Instructional Assistance award.  Congratulations ladies on a job well done!
State Winner
Congratulations to Kara Kirby from Brock Elliott School. She was selected as the winner in the State of California for the Bonnie Plants 3rd grade cabbage program. She won statewide recognition and a $1000.00 scholarship. Way to go Kara!

 
Manteca Artist of the Year!
Sierra High band instructor Rick Hammarstrom was honored as the Artist of the Year at the 25th Manteca Mayor's Committee on the Arts awards event. Congratulations!!
Dedication of new SHS track
On Saturday, March 6th, 2010 Sierra High School will host its 12th Annual Track & Field Invitational. Sierra High School recently completed the renovation of its track and field facilities with the installation of a 9 lane synthetic track. Twenty-eight high schools will be in attendance with over 1,500 athletes competing. There will be four divisions competing with Frosh/Soph boys & girls and Varsity boys & girls. Admission is $5.00,  students $3.00, with children under 6 free.
Jack Thomson "Model Coach Award Winner"
Coach Thomson was honored as one of the California Interscholastic Foundation's Model Coach Award winner. Thomson will be honored during halftime of the CIF State Football Championship Game in Los Angeles in December.
 
 
 
Lathrop VP and Principal become living "Ice Cream Sundaes"
Students at Lathrop School who scored 600 in the CST individual subject areas were given the honor to drench Principal Silveira and Vice Principal Olsen with chocolate sauce, marshmallows, whipped cream, sprinkles, and cherries!!!  
 
Dust Off Those Running Shoes..........
The MUST Track Season is right around the corner!! Track registration will begin on Tuesday, March 9th for grades 4th-8th. Check with your school site for registration forms.
 

SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF......

School Fundraisers Aimed at Helping Haiti Victims
Many of the MUSD schools have organized fundraisers to raise money to help the people of Haiti. We are proud of our students, parents, and staff for helping to "give back" to the people of Haiti
 
 
We are pleased with the consistent growth our District has experienced over the past 11 years on API. The strong growth made this past year is attributable directly to the focused, and dedicated staff and students who make up MUSD.
French Camp Soaring to New Heights
The staff, parents and students of French Camp School are to be commended for a job well done! French Camp is only one out of 10 of the 903 schools statewide who were at Program Improvement Year 5 in 2008-09 who made their Adequate Yearly Progress targets for two years in a row effectively meeting the federal guidelines for exiting out of Program Improvement. Way to go EAGLES!!

MUSD HONOR BANDS
On Saturday, February 6, 2010, at Lathrop High School's Performing Arts Building, approximately 120 instrumental music students within the Manteca Unified School District participated in the annual Junior High and High School Honor Bands. Performers came from the elementary level for rehearsals at Lathrop High on five evenings to sharpen their skills with Lathrop High School Band director, Desiree Bugarin. High School students were under the direction of Sonoma State University music professor, Dr. Robert Collinsworth. The two groups performed for capacity audiences beginning at 6:00 PM with the Junior High Honor ensemble. They were followed by the High School students at 6:45 PM.
We are very proud of our local Honor Band students!
 
               
Planet Party Day
April 15, 2010
Nearly 2000 sixth grade students in MUSD have participated in lesson plans to prepare them for this event. Planet Party Day is designed to allow students to visit an array of exhibits and dialogue with experts in each field of study and expand knowledge that they have gained during the year as they begin to establish their sense of stewardship for the world in which we live.
